Chinese Government Scholarship for Master’s and Doctoral Programs

In a bid to promote mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China (MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and administration of these Chinese Government Scholarship programs.

China University of Petroleum is one of the universities approved by MOE to admit all types of Chinese Government Scholarship students.

Bachelor’s degree applicants should take one-year preparatory and Chinese language courses in a MOE-designated university and pass the required tests before starting major studies at UPC. Applicants with HSK 4 certificates can be exempted from the one year preparatory and Chinese language courses. Please NOTE that HSK results are valid for only 2 years.

Criteria & Eligibility

(1) Applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen and be in good health.

(2) Applicant must be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for the master’s programs.

(3) Applicant must be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for the doctoral programs.

Application Time: Between 1 January and 15 April

Application Procedures

(1) Register via the Chinese Government Scholarship Online Application System for International Students(http://www.campuschina.org/), choose Type B(our agency number 10425), complete online information, submit and print a hard copy of the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship.

(2) Send all the required application documents in person or by post to the Admissions Office of College of International Education. Please send application documents by Shunfeng Express (顺丰), DHL and other international express courier companies. Admissions office will not track or give feedback to application documents using other delivery services.

(3) Successful candidates will receive the Admission Notice and the Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) usually in July or August.

(4) Students should log into the UPC International Student Online Application System (https://upc.17gz.org), register a Chinese Government Scholarship applicant account, fill in their personal information and upload the required application documents.

(5) Students should apply for a study visa (X1-visa) in the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in their countries with the Admission Notice and JW201, and register with the College of International Education in due time.

(1) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship

(2) Notarized highest diploma and transcripts. Applicants that have not graduated should provide a study certificate/pre-graduation certificate. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached together with notarized translations in Chinese or English.

(3) Research Proposal/Study Plan in China with a minimum of 800 words in Chinese/English Download

(4) Two recommendation letters from professors/associate professors in Chinese/English

(5) Acceptance letter from a China University of Petroleum supervisor in Chinese/English(supervisor contact)Download

(6) Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy) Download

The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the results are valid for only 6 months.
