On October 18, 2024, the College of International Education of China University of Petroleum (East China) held a lecture on the theme of“Mental Health and Adaptive Growth” for the newly enrolled international students. The lecture aims to help international students better cope with the psychological challenges they may encounter in the process of cross-cultural adaptation, smoothly integrate into the new environment, and enhance their sense of well-being in study and life.
In the lecture, the College invited Ms. Li Hao, a psychology expert from Ocean University of China, to give a detailed explanation on culture shock, study pressure, interpersonal communication, life adaptation and other issues in combination with the actual needs of international students. Through vivid examples and practical psychological adjustment methods, Ms. Li helped international students realize the importance of mental health and encouraged them to seek professional help in time when they encountered confusion. The lecture also set up an interactive session where international students actively participated in asking questions and having one-on-one conversations with Ms. Li, sharing their feelings and challenges when they first arrived in China.
Fetman, an international student from Morocco, said, “The lecture made me realize that mental health is just as important as physical health. I did feel a bit uncomfortable during my first days in China, but through today's explanation, I learned some new ways to adjust myself, and I also learned that the CIE provides many resources to help us.”
The successful holding of this lecture not only enhanced the mental health awareness of international students, but also further improved their sense of belonging to China University of Petroleum(East China).
Zhang Zhiying, Vice Dean of College of International Education, said that relevant activities would be carried out regularly in the future to provide more comprehensive mental health support for international students and help them achieve better results in their study and life in China.
