The first meeting of UPC International Alumni Association (UPCIAA) Council was held successfully online on December 17, 2022.  President of UPC International Alumni Association Council Huang Fang, Vice President and Secretary General Zhang Zhiying, Deputy Secretary General Gai Chao, Sang Yingzi, Shabas(Pakistani alumni), and regional leaders and council members from 11 different countries attended the meeting.

First of all, the council discussed the constitution of UPCIAA. Afterwards, Zhang Zhiying, the secretary-general of the Council, introduced the organization and personnel structure of UPCIAA Council and the preparatory work of UPCIAA, and the plan in the next stage of the alumni work. In the near future, the Council will focus on the following three aspects: firstly, to organize the local alumni to study and discuss constitution of UPCIAA.Secondly, to contact the alumni extensively to collect the latest information of the alumni. Thirdly, to explore and publicize the outstanding stories the alumni. Fourthly, to collect alumni suggestions to form the alumni work plan in different regions.

During the free discussion session, Shabas, from Pakistan, said,“Regular alumni exhibitions and experience sharing on online platforms will help all international students improve their career planning skills.” Phiri, regional director of Zimbabwe, said，“Expanding the employment information channels in China should be the focus of the next phase of the alumni association.” Bekir, Uzbekistan's regional director, combined with his own experience, put forward the idea of closed loop construction of “Petroleum Company-UPC-UPC Alumni-Petroleum Company". Zakariye, the regional head of Somalia, proposed the role of the alumni association from three aspects: co-construction of Chinese and foreign enterprises, information sharing and cultural promotion. Other council members also put forward their own plans and ideas on the work of the alumni association.

Professor Huang Fang, Dean of College of International Education, President of UPC International Alumni Association Council, made a concluding speech. First of all, he thanked all the council members for their efforts and contributions to the work of the council. He hoped that the alumni Association would become a bridge between the alumni and the University. Through our efforts, the alumni Association would become a platform for deepening friendship and sharing information, and be the home of all graduates. He also hoped all the alumni to become the ambassador to promote the University. It was hoped that the directors of the alumni association could carry forward the glorious tradition of the University and make contributions to the development and construction of the University. The University would also build a platform through multiple channels to boost the success of the alumni.
